【My(spring及festival)】The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and is a time for family reunions, feasts, and various cultural activities. Every year, I look forward to this special occasion with great excitement.
As the festival approaches, the streets are decorated with red lanterns and couplets. Red is considered a lucky color in Chinese culture, symbolizing happiness and prosperity. People clean their homes thoroughly to sweep away bad luck and make way for good fortune. This tradition is called "spring cleaning."
On the eve of the Spring Festival, my family gathers together for a big dinner. We cook traditional dishes such as dumplings, fish, and rice cakes. Dumplings represent wealth because they look like ancient Chinese money. Eating fish means "having more than enough" (fish sounds like "surplus" in Chinese). The meal is not only delicious but also full of meaning.
After dinner, we watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV, which is a popular annual event featuring performances, comedy sketches, and music shows. It has become a part of our family tradition to enjoy this show together.
At midnight, we set off fireworks and firecrackers to welcome the new year. The loud noises and bright lights are believed to scare away evil spirits and bring good luck. I always feel a sense of joy and wonder when I see the colorful fireworks lighting up the sky.
During the festival, I also visit relatives and friends, exchange gifts, and wish each other a happy new year. It's a time of warmth, love, and celebration. Although the festival lasts for about 15 days, the memories and feelings it brings stay with me long after the celebrations are over.
For me, the Spring Festival is not just a holiday; it's a time to cherish family, reflect on the past year, and look forward to the future with hope and optimism. It's a special time that connects me to my culture and reminds me of the importance of traditions and togetherness.
